We Explored the ESSENCE of Nature!
The “One Step Beyond Education - Nature School” event, organized by NUN Schools teachers with the aim of gaining a school experience in the heart of nature, without walls and where participants explored the beauties hidden behind the landscape, took place at NUN Schools Beykoz Campus. 30 teachers from different schools participated in the nature school event, which was held by expert teachers in the field.
In the "One Step Beyond Education-Nature School" event, which received a lot of applications in a short time and was organized on November 7-8, teachers made practices in nature around several topics, from walking track to creating a nature book, from various art activities to internalizing the idea of a school without walls.
First day of the event started with the "Nursery Without Walls" titled speech of Dr. Belma Tuğrul. Dr. Tuğrul explained the concept in her speech. The participants, who made a joyous start with games and various activities, continued their day with discovery activities in nature, art in nature and ecological practices in education. They experienced the happiness of discovering and learning by following the clues of the nature. After the first day ended with the evaluation, the participants greeted the second day with a starting circle. On the second day, which continued with the speech of Dr. Fatih Dikmen titled "Education in Nature", they performed activities such as sun observation at the observatory, bird watching on the observation terrace and the transformation of sound into lines. The second day ended with activities of autumn-themed leaf game and storytelling in nature.
Founding Representative of NUN Schools Fatih Nida Üye expressed that "As NUN Schools, we have transformed the Nature School activity, which we have carried out for two years to enable our nursery students to learn by touching and exploring nature into teacher education. We were able to accept only 1 in 4 of the applicants for this event, where nursery and primary school teachers from many different schools applied with great interest. We are very happy with this interest and plan to make the event permanent by repeating it in the coming months. We have been arguing since the day we first established that education should not be confined between four walls. The pandemic also showed that education is a process that must happen at any time and anywhere. With this belief, we care about maintaining education continuously.".
