Our Social Responsibility Project Will Bring Life to Music Classes

NUN Music Group introduced İzzettin Hümâyi Bey's children's songs by giving a concert in the last months, and now it will become a social responsibility project. Music lovers will buy İzzettin Hümâyi Bey's Children's Songs books and CDs to support the construction of a music class for Sarıkum Elementary School in Tatvan district of Bitlis and schools in different regions of Anatolia.

İzzettin Hümâyi Bey was raised in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and continued as a musician and statesman during the early years of Turkish Republic and after many years his children's songs met with music lovers for the first time. NUN Music Group, consisting of NUN Elementary School students, performed 16 children's songs composed by İzzettin Hümâyi Bey and brought his songs out of mothballs. In the book, music lovers will have the opportunity to find the lyrics and music notes of the compositions as well as beautiful songs.

NUN Education and Culture Foundation Chairwoman Esra Albayrak said, “ These CDs and booklet are the first product of our project, which opens the doors of a rich music corpus and they contain our traditional musical notes, rhythms and meaning which are not adaptations but all authentic pieces.” about the project of creating music classes for Sarıkum Elementary School in Tatvan district of Bitlis and schools in different regions of Anatolia with the revenue coming from the sales revenue of books and cd. Albayrak said, “As a result of the screening of the official and private musical note archives, approximately 600 Turkish Music compositions for children were identified. It is very important for us to introduce one of the unforgettable masters of our music like Izzettin Hümâyi Bey to new generations. I want to share the good news that our projects will continue at the same speed and determination.” Believing that education is a process that intertwines and blends with culture as NUN Education and Culture Foundation, Albayrak added, “We always support these kinds of projects that our students actualize. Such projects will multiply and we will continue to support them.”

Who is İzzettin Hümâyi Bey?

He was born in Nişanca neighborhood in Fatih, İstanbul. His father was Hâfız Ahmed Şemseddin, one of the sheikhs of the Bülbülcüzâde Dervish Lodge in the same neighborhood, and his mother was Kamer Hanım. After completing his primary education, he graduated from Atay Rushdiye in Hırkaişerif and continued his education in Çemberlitaş High School. After graduating from there, he started to work in “Dahiliye Nezâreti Mektûbî Kalemi”. In the meantime, he worked in the Court of Justice. After working for twenty years in Bâbıâli, he started to work as a teacher. After working in Üsküdar, Kabataş, Davutpaşa and Gelenbevi high schools and some other secondary schools for many years, he retired when he was the Sixteenth Primary School teacher. He passed away on 3 October 1950 in Fatih and was buried in the cemetery outside the Edirnekapı walls.

Elçioğlu has demonstrated his excellence in composing with his religious and non-religious works. Although it is said that he composed more than 3000 compositions, the number of his works in the form of ayyin-i sharif, tevşîh, na‘t, hymn, semâi, songs and anthem is close to 100.
