“Building Boundaries: A Secure Bond” Parent Workshop
Adolescent ideas and thoughts may clash with those of their parents as they experience the urge to achieve individuation, autonomy, and identity under the influence of growth. They may exhibit risky and pleasure-oriented behaviors, have difficulty restraining themselves, and desire to make decisions independently or test their power to cope with situations. In other words, they can test their limits while maintaining their sense of individuality and experimenting with behaviors that may not be approved by adults. While adolescents desire and experience to be free, to be able to act independently, and to act alone, on the one hand, they need boundaries to be set by adults. These boundaries encourage young people to feel physically and emotionally safe, allowing them to delay gratification, build social connections, and develop into responsible individuals.
NÛN Middle School PCG Unit held their workshop for the parents: “Building Boundaries: A Secure Bond.” The workshop shared information on the true meaning of boundaries, how authority and boundaries are formed in children, the father's role in child spirituality, why parents have difficulty setting boundaries, and how to set healthy boundaries.
Thanks to the workshop, our parents learned practical approaches that will support the emotional and social development of their children.
