Parent Workshop: A Deeper Look into Parenthood through Art
NÛN Middle School PCG Unit hosted a workshop titled "A Deeper Look into Parenthood through Art" for parents of grades 7 and 8. The workshop provided a unique opportunity for parents to explore their values, beliefs, and life goals, while reflecting on their relationships with their children and past experiences. The core theme centered around the idea that parenthood is a journey of growth and development, not only for children, but for parents as well.
Through a creative clay sculpting activity, parents explored their ideal and "good-enough" parenting styles. The activity helped them visualize important concepts like flexibility, understanding, and sensitivity towards their children's needs.
The workshop fostered open discussions, both individually and in groups among parents to discuss new strategies of building an emotionally supportive and healthy relationship. The PCG teachers explained the importance of building flexible, and emotionally supportive and caring relationships with their children. They shared alternative strategies leading a strong relationship. Parents were encouraged to re-evaluate the existing dynamics of their relationships and discover ways to build a healthy relationship in the family environment.
By the workshop's conclusion, parents engaged in a focused discussion on the significance of emotional support within the family unit. They explored various strategies based on different parenting styles to build healthy, lasting relationships with their children.
