Internationally famous cardiologist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Öz met with our students and parents on 20.10.2018 Saturday at our Beykoz Campus. Öz, advised to our students "Bad things do not come out of bad people. It happens as the good people do not prevent it. Therefore, you must be brave.”
Providing the vast knowledge and equipment he has in the interest of the society, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Öz met with our students and parents. Prof Dr. answered questions of our students and guests about the topic “What you Wonder about Healthy and Happy Life”. He received a lot of applause from the hall with his answer to the question on how he reached to this level in his career; “if you don't know your own life story, you may be in someone else's”.
After being reminded that our students paid a visit to Syrian refugee camps last month, Mr. Öz added “I am hopeful for the future of these young people. Because they want to stand up. Our role is to give a hand to them. People from different nationalities can come together to solve the refugee issue. I see this as an opportunity for all humanity to step into a brighter future.”
During the programme which was attended by Assoc. Dr. Halit Yerebakan as well, Prof. Dr. Dr. Mehmet Oz, expressed his opinion on different issues from his success story to the adventure of him being a doctor, ways of healthy living or daily routines from the daily routine expressed his views on many issues. Giving advises on healthy life to our students, Mr. Öz stated stated that drinking lemon juice when we wake up on morning supports the resistance of our body. He added that sleeping is very important for a healthy life. Öz, highlighted that many of the diseases are caused by failure to stand upright and encouraged students to stand upright by saying it is the easiest exercise one may do. Most of the time students are consuming coffee while working on exams and it is very wrong. He noted that coffee should never be seen as a source of energy. Underlining that the most important factor that changed the healing period of two patients who underwent the same treatment was human bonds, Öz stated that in order have a healthy heart or to be successful in the life we should shape our lives around a purpose.
Professor Dr. Mehmet Öz stated that, unlike those who claim that faith has lost importance, human beings need to believe in their nature, and those who are far from established belief systems may fall into other belief systems created by people like capitalism.
Öz, who talked about the advantages and disadvantages of living as a Turkish person in the United States, also gave examples of his own life to the students who want to continue their education abroad. He underlined the importance of educational activities by emphasizing that NUN Schools are a great educational nest. Öz, said that as a doctor he tells his patients "I'm not the one to save you, it is the love you have for life," and added that people should be happy for even the smallest details in life.
Our IB PYP Coordinator Şule Özcan asked “We put an utmost effort to practice mentorship system at our school with the help of our wise teachers. Did you have any mentor who supported to in your career?” and Mr. Öz answered “I think a man should always have a mentor in his life. My father has always supported me. As he is also a doctor, he was a role model for me as well as being my first mentor.”
