Technology for the Benefit of Humanity from Our Middle School Students!
Technology for the Benefit of Humanity from Our Middle School Students!
OKKA technology team consisting of our middle school students aims to enable children having full or partial visual impairment to learn Braille easily and entertainingly with the project they designed.
Our secondary school students set out to avoid the difficulties experienced by visually impaired children at the beginning of their learning age and individuals who started learning the Braille alphabet for the first time. Therefore, within the scope of the project titled "Don't Say I Cannot See, Try My Keyboard", the students assembled the Braille alphabet they had 3D modelled and printed and coded a game that can teach students letters and words gradually.
The student can feel the letters and numbers by touching them when s/he presses the keys before starting the game, as well as listening to the sounds corresponding to these letters and numbers. In the game, the voice of a random letter or number is given to the student and s/he is expected to press the correct key corresponding to the letter or number s/he hears from the student. With the designed game, the student who presses the correct key is encouraged to continue the game, and the student who presses the wrong key is encouraged to try again and learn the correct one.
The project enabling the use of technology and gamification together was qualified for the finals as 2nd team among 887 teams in Social Innovation category of Teknofest 2020 Technology for Humanity. The project which was exhibited to the jury members at the Gaziantep Middle East Fair Center on September 24-27, and won the competition as 4th.
At the same time, the project was shared via our website and made available for free access. Those who need will be able to apply STL files to any keyboard they provide by 3D printing the shared keyboard keys. Again, they will be able to actively use it thanks to the game software shared through the website.
Founder Representative of NUN Schools Fatih Nida Üye said that "Since the first day we established as NUN Schools, we strive to enhance our students' interest and curiosity in technology, science and innovation. At the present situation, it makes us very proud that our students increase both the number of projects and achievements each year by competing in finals. Our children started to negotiate with technology companies to improve and spread their projects. Such studies has a positive impact on our students' excitement, self-confidence and view of life. We support the achievements of each and wish them continued."
