Material Support from Our School to the ‘GAP’ School for the Visually Impaired
Material Support from Our School to the ‘GAP’ School for the Visually Impaired
NUN Schools wooden–design workshop, which was established on the basis of volunteering at the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year, designed an important social responsibility project by designing materials for the GAP School for the Visually Impaired.
At the beginning of this academic year, the NUN Eğitim ve Kültür Foundation administrators learned that the School for the Visually Impaired needed training materials, and took action to produce these materials in the wood-design workshop in our school. Administrators shared the details of the project with the school administration and then with the relevant teachers. Under the guidance of their teachers, our students who made efforts to conduct the project in a short time, managed to produce materials by spending long hours.
The students said that they were very excited when they heard about the project at the beginning; “We started by recognizing the machines at the beginning of the year. We had a short time ahead. We didn’t give up. We shared the happiness of warming hearts while improving our reflection skills.” Our design teacher, Yunus Kaş, who guided the students during the project, said that the students made progress in a short time. Within the scope of the project implemented under the leadership of NUN Eğitim ve Kültür Foundation, the needs of GAP School for the Visually Impaired were determined first. The materials to be produced were determined and the tasks were distributed among the students.
Noting that all the materials were produced in the workshop, Yunus Kaş said, “The students came to our workshop even during the weekend holidays and continued their studies.” In another project, which proceeds simultaneously with the wood-design workshop, a team guided by the head of the Turkish Language and Literature department, Alime Şahintürk, performed three different books for visually impaired students. High school students put great effort into publishing these books as Braille books.
Our students, who designed 90 pieces of 10 different materials in their wood-workshop, visited Gaziantep to deliver their products to their visually impaired friends. Faced with the smiles of visually impaired students, the project team expressed their feelings: “We were very happy to leave big things in the small hearts. We think that we touched the lives of students in Gaziantep. As the project team, we have enjoyed the happiness of acting together.” NUN Eğitim ve Kültür Foundation administrators announced the good news that the project will continue in the coming years.
