The Beyond Education Summit Explained Reconnecting With The
The Beyond Education summit, which was organized for the third time this year, called on educators and everyone who set their hearts on education to “Reconnect with the Essence”.
The third Beyond Education summit organized by the NÛN Foundation for Education and Culture was held on November 4, 2023. At the center of the summit, the concept of "Reconnecting with the Essence" was presented to the audience with new perspectives under the guidance of experts. The summit was attended by over 600 participants from nearly 20 provinces , highlighting the importance of putting humans at the center of education.
The summit was held in NUN Schools Beykoz Campus, and Dr Esra Albayrak gave the welcome speech of the Beyond Education summit. The summit continued with the opening remarks of the Minister of National Education, Prof. Yusuf Tekin.
Following the opening remarks of the Mister of National Education, Prof. Jean Twenge delivered a captivating address that shed light on the distinctive characteristics of Generation Z through an in-depth study of over 11 million individuals for decades. Twenge focused on the importance of not giving authority to children at a young age in her speech. She shared her research and thoughts on a variety of topics, from the pandemic to artificial intelligence. She mentioned the need for youngs to nurture their spirituality.
Afterwards, Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç, well known for his work in the field of Islamic Sufism, gave his speech.
After Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç gave his speech, the first panel of the day, "A Glance at the Essence of Education", was moderated by İpek Coşkun Armağan. In the panel discussion featuring Deputy Minister of National Education Assoc. Prof. Celile Eren Ökten, scholar and author Prof. Ahmet Ayhan Çitil, and scholar and author Prof. Sonali Nag, the intricacies of education were explored from diverse perspectives, encompassing language, thought, and beyond.
The summit proceeded with a thought-provoking speech from academician and author Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Dinç, encouraging a new perspective on life filled with alternative meanings.
Participants showed great interest in the 26 workshops held simultaneously after the lunch break. The workshops were shaped around different topics. Participants had the occasion to learn about religion and values in a postmodern climate, by following the routes of Istanbul in the footsteps of Evliya Çelebi's doctrines. The other areas gave the chance to learn from robotic coding to ink workshops, and the participants shared how they can apply and develop in the classroom environment.
The "Searching for the 'Essence" panel featured academician and writer Prof. Dursun Ali Tökel, academician and Board member of NUN Foundation for Education and Culture Prof. Tayfun Kındap, director, writer, and activist Tülay Gökçimen, academician and medical doctor Assoc. Prof. Muhammed Keskin, adventurous Serdar Kılıç (Dogada Tek Basina), advertiser and writer Çiğdem Tavkul, archery coach Metin Gazoz, producer and screenwriter Mehmet Bozdağ. The panelists, who have achieved great success in their fields, shared their experiences of searching for “self” with the participants.
The program ended with the "Human in New Generation Movements" panel moderated by Assoc. Prof. Şule Albayrak. The speakers of the panel discussed the addictions and clearly addressed the importance of being conscious about this topic and the necessities of the age we live in. The contributors to the panel were academician and public health advocate Prof Toker Ergüder, academician and writer Prof. Ferhan Odabaşı, and academician writer Prof. Zeki Bayraktar.
The Beyond Education summit concluded with a performance of a work called "Emanet" by Mehmet Kalyoncu, contributor of NUN Foundation for Education and Culture. The NUN student choir also contributed to the performance of the piece, which was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the republic and was.
