Cemal Toy
The program started with our guest's presentation that he named as "The Secret World of Colors". Sharing some examples of artworks from the art history of world and our country, the painter explained the art of painting in the language of children. The most attractive part of the presentation was the part in which he showed the photos of his own workshop. After inviting all students to visit his workshop, he answered the questions of the little listeners with interest.
Our students showed great interest to Cemal Toy's solo exhibition, which was presented in the foyer area of our school and consisted of his 28 artworks. Visiting the exhibition with their classmates, our students came in turn to our winter garden and did a workshop with our painter guest. Working frequently on the silhouette of İstanbul in his own paintings, Toy wanted our fourth and third grade students to draw their dream cities. City descriptions made by our students with colored strips was worth seeing.
Mr. Toy, who likes triggering imagination of the children with open ended instructions, wanted our kindergarten, first grade and second grade students to draw "the heroes they come across when they enter from the gate of fairy tales". Being sometimes human, and sometimes an object or an animal, heroes drawn by our students, who used the technique of collage with the part they cut from the magazines and newspapers were all more beautiful than the other. Having an enjoyable day full of art with our students, Mr. Toy completed his work by reminding the importance of keeping an artist journal in the childhood.
