The artists of this Exhibition are Kids!
We conducted the first IBPYP Mini Exhibition of this year: Our kindergarten students share the outputs of their units of inquiry with their parents. Each student presented their work to their parents and guided them.
Our students presented the natural output of their learning process, instead of an exhibition after long hours of rehearsals. In the first section of our IBPYP Mini Exhibition, there were stage performances. As the hosts of the exhibition, our kindergarten students emphasized “Our choices affect our life quality and health” within the scope of “Who we are” transdisciplinary theme. The students asked the question “How can we teach what we have learnt to the people around us, our relatives attending the exhibition?” and their answer was “With Drama!” They fictionalized a play about the benefits of fruit and vegetables. They chose everything they wanted to display; from costumes to choreography and they had so much fun on the stage.
After the drama, English songs and gymnastic display, the most exciting part for students was to take a tour in the exhibition with parents. Our students shared their work with their parents enthusiastically; there were portraits inspired by Arcimboldo, colors inspired by Picasso, so many creative germ pictures they draw without any fear as they all said “Mr. Germ, you cannot make me sick!” and much more. In this exhibition, they were both the artists and guides and the most interesting piece was a dinner table they draw all together on a wall-sized canvas. After the exhibition, unit of inquiry and this process, the best thing that remains for the children was to learn and internalized through experience that their choices affect their lives.
