AFAD President Güllüoğlu: “We should take precautions instead of fearing the earthquake”

The first NUN Gatherings of the new academic year started with AFAD President Mehmet Güllüoğlu.

Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu explained the earthquake awareness to our students, what to do before and after natural disasters, and the importance of humanitarian activities based on personal life experience. Güllüoğlu, explained the precautions to be taken before natural disasters and what to do during and after the earthquake, and also answered the questions of our students.

AFAD President Mehmet Güllüoğlu started the event by showing the maps of the reality of the earthquake with statistical information. Sharing the fault lines of the last hundred years and realized information of earthquakes in Turkey Güllüoğlu added, “We need to have knowledge about the geography we live on. We live on a piece of land intertwined with the earthquake. We should take precautions instead of being afraid. Our country ranks third in the world in terms of human loss in earthquakes and eighth in terms of the number of people affected. On average, there is at least one earthquake each year, ranging in size from 5 to 6 years. We must be ready for this at any moment. “ After explaining what needs to be done for precaution about the earthquake, Güllüoğlu also touched upon the other activities of AFAD and said: “As AFAD, we consider extending our hand to people in need in different regions of the world as our debt. So far, we have provided humanitarian assistance to people who are in a difficult situation from Somalia to Sudan, from Palestine to Haiti due to hunger, earthquakes, floods and war. We, as AFAD, are interpreters of Turkish people’s emotions, and we actualize what they are thinking about. “

Answering the questions of our students, especially about the earthquake AFAD President advised, “we must act on what we can do without fear of the earthquake, and what we can change.” At the event, which ended with the presentation of gifts, our students learned about the earthquake.
