International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP)

In order to support the academic and intellectual development of the students, NÛN Middle School has created an enriched curriculum that includes the IB curricula and focuses mainly on NÛN Values.

Our main objective is to raise thinkers, communicators, inquiring, knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, and balanced and reflective young people. These characteristics represent a wide range of human competence and responsibility that goes beyond intellectual development and academic success.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to educate young people who will make our world a better and more peaceful place while providing them with 21st-century skills and offering an internationally valid diploma. Our school, which implements the Middle Years Programme (MYP) developed for primary school students, took its place in the IB World Schools list in March 2017.

The IB MYP is a flexible program that can meet the requirements of many national curricula.

It is based on knowledge, skills, and behaviors developed during the Early Years Programme (PYP) and prepares students for the requirements of the IB Diploma Programme.

* Targets students' cognitive, social, emotional and physical well-being holistically.

* Provides students with opportunities to develop the necessary knowledge, behaviors, and skills to act consciously and produce solutions to problems.

  • Provides a broad and in-depth thinking system through intensive studies in eight lessons.

* Requires learning at least two languages to support students in understanding their own cultures and other cultures. Assigns students to participate in social services.

  • Helps students to prepare for their career path, lifelong learning, and further education.

The program supports students to establish a connection between their school work and the real world.

IB MYP CURRICULUM MODEL

MYP provides an inclusive and continuous curriculum framework. Students are supported in making connections between their academic studies and real-world situations. They find diversified programs allow students to become creative, critical, and reflective individuals. The program supports the development of skills necessary for life in the 21st century. The program is based on principles of holistic learning, intercultural awareness, and effective communication.

In our school, MYP is applied for three years, starting from grade 5 and continuing through grades 6 and 7. In the 8th grade, our school implemented the NÛN High School Preparatory Program.

There are eight subject groups in MYP years 1, 2, and 3 in the current academic year:

Students are supported with a minimum of 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group in each academic year.

The MYP comprises eight subject groups:

Language Acquisition,

Language and Literature,

Individuals and Societies,

Sciences,

Mathematics,

Arts,

Design,

Physical and Health Education.

The MYP curriculum design offers teachers the opportunity to create custom units and have the flexibility to align with national curricula.

Therefore, at MYP, teachers work to prepare learning environments based on national curriculum standards, taking into account the needs of their students.
