Experiencing Cas Projects
CAS is a set of extracurricular activities that students must do within the scope of the IB Diploma Program. CAS is an abbreviation consisting of the first letters of C-Creativity, A-Action, and S-Service. Students,
Creative activities provide opportunities to express oneself and explore creativity through art, music, theater, dance, and writing.
They encourage a healthy lifestyle by participating in physical activities and moving, such as sports, dance, adventure activities, and team sports.
By participating in community service projects with Service activities, they have the opportunity to help others and benefit society. For example, they may organize events in areas such as volunteer work, environmental projects, and charity campaigns.
Students are required to complete at least one CAS project for CAS activities involving these three areas.
We can summarize the CAS portfolio as a mandatory core component of the social activity experiences designed by the Diploma Programme to raise balanced and life-touching individuals. These social events should be in three different areas: art, sports and service. Our high school students can continue their current social activities for CAS by enriching/diversifying them or experiencing new experiences with new ideas. In addition, our students are required to carry out a project in the field of service (taking into account five different stages) as a group. This project may include serving the school community, the local environment, or even the world.
Some of the CAS projects that our students developed in 2022 are as follows:
- A digital dictionary of 5000 words, the most widely used in the Turkish language. It is a useful project accessed by downloading the free Anki Flashcards application to devices open to the whole world alongside on apps.ankiweb.net. Global Social Leaders awarded this project the Impact Award Receiver.
- The CTRL A platform was created for the purpose of creating a chat group during the pandemic process. Students utilized the site for voice and written communication and to share academic ideas.
- İki Doğu ve İki Batı Magazine, a beautiful work that brings the school community together, showcases the well-established examples of our rich poetry literature and also provides good opportunities for new studies, nourishes the soul. In addition, EFKAR magazine became an impressive magazine that describes the history of racism, colonialism and slavery with examples.
- Many recycling projects have been carried out. Some of these are; “Cleanwasteatik” soap production from oils, “Swaltics” is the production of plastic raw materials that can be used in a 3D printer from everyday plastic waste.
In summary, the CAS portfolio is the mandatory fundamental component of the extra-curricular activities/experiences designed by the Diploma Programme to raise balanced individuals who can positively contribute to society. These extra-curricular activities can be done individually and should be carried out in three different areas: art & creativity, sports and service. All our high school students can attend CAS by enriching/diversifying their extra-curricular activities and experiencing new experiences with new ideas. Additionally, our students are required to carry out a project in the field of service (taking into account the 5 CAS stages), which they must do as part of a group. This project may include serving the school community, the local environment, or even the world.
